Anyone who has lived abroad eventually encounters the cultural caricature of their own motherland. Most stereotypes, though grown from a kernel of truth, fall apart in the face of evidence, experience, and investigation. Still, once in a while that same kernel pops in a hot, double-buttered blast of awful.

I am saddened that the stereotype of America is fat, religious people driving autos and not such icons as the Grand Canyon, Portland’s public transportation system, or an individual such as Greg Mortenson.
Well, agreed, but nobody picks on your good side.
