So, I just upgraded my D2G to Cyanogenmod 7.1.0. Like many other people, I had immediate problems with USB.
The symptoms are as follows:
I plug the USB cable into my computer and into my Droid 2 Global.
The Droid 2 Global does not respond in any way. No charge light, no hardware response from the PC.
HOWEVER, if the phone is rebooted with the cable connected, then
The USB mass storage dialog will appear and the phone will connect ONCE
But if disconnected it will not reconnect again.
After wasting an entire afternoon trying to get USB Mass Storage to work on CM for D2G, I called my friend Aaron Marback who has better Android and Google-fu than I do.
Aaron pointed me to this post by dateno1. Attached is a rar file containing two files: usbd and Usb.apk.
To fix the USB problems with Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 on Droid 2 Global, do the following:
Download the files linked in dateno1′s post.
Connect your phone to your computer and reboot it to establish a connection. Alternately copy files to SD card using card reader.
Copy the files onto the root dir of your SD card.
Install the app Root Explorer.
Open Root Explorer. Navigate to the root directory of the SD card.
Press and hold on the file “usbd”. Choose “copy”.
Navigate to /system/bin/. Paste.
Set permissions to rwxr-xr-x or just give permissions to everyone.
Navigate back to the SD card root directory.
Press/hold and Copy “Usb.apk”.
Navigate to /system/apps/ and paste.
Again, set permissions the same way.
Reboot phone and enjoy USB access.
Thanks to Dateno1 and Aaron Marback.
I just upgraded to CM 7.2.0 and tried this but it doesnt seam to be working. I also used Root Browser Lite instead to copy and set the permissions for the files. Does the patch not work for 7.2.0?
Never mind, it turns out I just needed to reboot a second time and it works now
good to know, i haven’t done the upgrade yet. thanks for reporting back.
Annnnnd I tried this fix for the Droid 1 and I can confirm it does not work -_- No USB storage continues…
Lame :-\
Just out of curiosity, do you know how to fix any of the other bugs with the droid2we? Such as wifi not turning on unless reboot, light and magnetic sensors dont work, bluetooth mic in call doesnt work, or Alt+lock physical key (among others).
Just followed these instructions with great success. ES File Explorer is a good free alternative to Root Explorer. You can enable root access from the settings within ES File Explorer.
Thanks for posting this!
Hey Mike, thanks for getting back with your success… it’s great to hear that the post helped someone.
